What are Dosing/Metering Pumps?

Dosing or metering pumps are small, positive displacement pumps made to pump chemicals or other substances at extremely precise flow rates. This type of pump is used to inject a chemical or substance into a steam, water or gas flow. Typically, a measured amount of chemical or substance to be pumped is placed in a chamber, then injected into a tank or pipe of a substance to be dosed.

An air actuator or electric motor usually powers the dosing pump and is controlled by either an internal pump controller or external control system. Their control systems allow adjustment of the flow rate, activating or deactivating the pump and alarms or warnings for low or depleted substances.
